Published purpose

The project proposes to upgrade the water supply, treatment and storage of drinking water in the northern York Region. Water to these communities is sourced from a lake-based supply, which is at risk of failure due to extreme storm events and extreme heat events. The project will mitigate the risk through diversification of water sources, in this case with investment in a resilient and sustainable groundwater supply system consisting of 11 wellfield sites and 23 wells (i.e., multiple wells are located at each wellfield site). The groundwater wells included in this project are located within the 4 communities they serve. This project would begin construction in 2023 and end in 2028.
