Published purpose

"In concrete terms, the project involves redeveloping the section of Chicoine street between De Lotbinière road and Trudeau street. The street runs through the Harwood-De Lotbinière district from east to west, which makes it a main artery for daily travel by residents. Strongly oriented toward motorized transportation and lacking in quality pedestrian and bicycle facilities, the current treatment of Chicoine street has a significant influence on the quality of the environment and the lifestyle and health of residents. The street is a two-lane motor vehicle transit route. There are no sidewalks, street furniture, bike paths or vegetated areas. The current layout does not meet the Town’s aspirations for the area and is at odds with the revitalization vision. The project will favour a completely new layout, with less public space devoted to motor vehicles and much more public space for people. Ultimately, the project will provide new facilities to promote active travel and make Chicoine street an active, safe thoroughfare that is a source of pride. Any additional work related to the rehabilitation of vehicular traffic lanes is EXCLUDED from this application. It is confined to active transportation facilities. In concrete terms, the project will provide 1.5-m wide, one-way off-roadway bicycle lanes (1.4 km), 1.8-m wide sidewalks on each side (1.4 km), pedestrian-scale lighting and vegetated areas. "
