Published purpose
The Pictou Marina and breakwater, one of the key elements in Pictou’s waterfront, is at risk due to rising tides, and intensifying storms, as outlined by Pictou’s municipal climate change adaptation plan. The Town of Pictou has experienced sea level rise and storm surges that are expected to intensify, with their marina bearing the brunt of the impact. This puts existing infrastructure in the marina, including buildings, wooden structures, sewer, water and storm mains, roads and other paths, as well as businesses and other personal property at risk. The proposed project will ensure the longevity and safe operations of the waterfront by raising the level of structures and building a structurally enhanced wharf along the waterfront, and improve and expand coastal protection through the construction of a new fixed breakwater. The fixed breakwater will replace a seasonal floating breakwater which has reached the end of its useful life
