Published purpose
Pelican Lake First Nation proposes to promote less use of vehicles by creating pathways to support walking and cycling. Its project name will be a " walk into history" this is symbolic of the location of the trails in both Clear Water Lake and within Pelican's currently developed elders' village and where the elders lodge is located. Both locations are used by the land based educators for both the elementary and high school in PLFN. Clear Water Lake is a part of the PLFN business venture of the Chamakese resort, PLFN outfitters. This business provides tourist services, cabins, fishing and this location also provides cultural and socio-economic benefits. The proposed trail in the community of PLFN is estimated at 5km with required culverts to address flooding and to install benches, fruit trees to support culture, picnic tables, barbeques for community gatherings and fencing to avoid use of motorized transportation. The trail in Chitek Lake is estimated at 8km. This trail requires clearing and to be gated to ensure this path is used only for walking cycling, scooters and wheelchairs.
