Published purpose

Ochapowace First Nation will build a 12km asphalt pathway, a bridge, benches, and solar lighting to increase safety and connect the community to Camp McKay, which is the historical site of the residential school that many of Ochapowace ancestors and residents attended, named Round Lake Mission. There has been a great deal of work to revitalize this into a community space called Camp McKay, which has a water park and hosts many vital community events throughout the year including weddings, language and culture camps, health camps as well as many other events that weave our history and culture together. Other key community landmarks that this path will connect includes: • Chief Denton George Memorial Complex • Band Administration Office • Kakisiwew School • Ochapowace Chief and Council • Over 100 Community Homes with Indigenous Residents • Ochapowace Pow Wow Arbour • Camp McKay (formerly the Round Lake Mission Residential School)
