This project aims to helps embattled civil society organizations (CSOs) withstand attacks, prevent harm, and defend civic space so they can continue their vital human rights work. It aims to ensure CSOs, especially those operating in high-risk environments, can overcome immediate threats, build resilience against future risks, and advocate to keep civic space open. Project activities include: (1) providing rapid, flexible emergency assistance, such as security measures, legal aid, secure communications, relocation, and medical support, so CSOs can address urgent threats and keep operating; (2) delivering preventive support through rapid-response grants and direct technical assistance, such as digital and physical security, pre-emptive legal guidance, and psychosocial support, to strengthen CSOs’ resilience; and (3) supporting rapid-response advocacy at domestic and international levels so CSOs can counter repressive laws and practices and promote policies that protect freedoms of association, assembly, and expression. This project directly benefits at-risk CSOs receiving emergency or preventive assistance, such as women-led organizations and groups focused on women’s rights, and broader civil society networks engaged in advocacy to protect civic space. It indirect benefits the communities these organizations serve by helping ensure continued services and stronger accountability and oversight.
