March 2021 - Yemen currently faces the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with over 24 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. The conflict and collapsing economy have pushed over 16 million people to suffer from acute food insecurity, and over 3.6 million people have been displaced since the beginning of the crisis in 2015. Essential service provisions collapsed, including critical water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and health services, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks such as cholera, dengue fever and diphtheria. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by the lack of access to essential services and face an increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence due to the crisis. With GAC’s support, this project provides a multi-sectoral response targeting an estimated 35,868 people in the Al-Dhale'e and Dhamar governorates. Project activities include: (1) improving gender-responsive water, sanitation and hygiene services and facilities; (2) providing emergency cash assistance and non-food items, (3) increasing access to safe drinking water.
