This project seeks to increase the economic opportunities for women and men graduates from the Technical and Vocational Training Institutions in the blue economy in Kenya. Project activities include: (1) developing industry responsive and gender-sensitive competency-based blue economy training curricula; (2) providing training to 200 technical instructors; (3) procuring and installing training equipment for the delivery of industry demand driven competency-based blue economy training programs; (4) providing gender responsive community outreach and advocacy campaigns to address perceptions and promote skills training in the blue economy; and (5) creating financial support opportunities including scholarships, industry attachments, internships, and recognition of prior learning services. The project works with 20 Vocational Training Centres and two National Polytechnics in Kenya’s coastal and Great Lake regions. The seven-year initiative aims to directly reach 5,472 students (2189 adolescent girls and women; 3283 boys and men). Indirect beneficiaries include over 1,500,000 community members, 8,200 parents, 120 employers, and five youth and Women’s Rights Organizations.
