Objet publié

March 2016 - Armed conflict in eastern Ukraine started in May 2014, since then the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance has been consistently increasing. Clashes between separatists and the Ukrainian army have displaced over 2.6 million people. Despite a significant reduction in hostilities in late 2015, the conflict has already left over 9,000 people dead and nearly 21,000 injured and serious human rights concerns persist. There are an estimated 3.1 million people which are in need of humanitarian assistance. Humanitarian access in eastern Donetsk and southern Luhansk region has been worsening since September 2015. The humanitarian situation remains highly concerning as the situation in Eastern Ukraine remains unstable and volatile. Displaced people face shortages in essentials such as food, medicine, health care, basic household items, clean water and shelter. With GAC’s support, the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) Canada is providing emergency shelter, essential relief items and protection assistance for up to 3,960 vulnerable individuals. Project activities include: (1) identifying the most vulnerable households; (2) distributing multi-purpose emergency cash assistance to the most vulnerable households for priority repairs of damaged houses or essential survival items; and, (3) providing gender-sensitive psychosocial support.
