Objet publié
February 2016 - Food insecurity and malnutrition, displacement, health emergencies, and natural disasters have left an estimated 2.3 million people in Chad in need of humanitarian assistance in 2016. With three major humanitarian crises at its borders, notably in Central African Republic (CAR), Nigeria and South Sudan, Chad’s refugee population is the highest in the Sahel, totaling over 500,000. These refugee populations continue to place enormous stress on host communities who face chronic food insecurity and acute malnutrition. With DFATD’s support, Oxfam-Québec is helping to assist up to 30,000 vulnerable people, including refugees from CAR, host communities, and Chadian returnees. Project activities include: (1) building or rehabilitating 13 water points; (2) sensitizing populations on improved hygiene practices; (3) supporting income generating activities benefitting up to 17,000 people; and (4) sensitizing local leaders and communities on human rights and conflict prevention.
