This project aims to increase the economic empowerment of women and youth and their participation in decent work activities within tourism-related sectors in the Lake Atitlán area of Sololá, Guatemala. This project contributes to increasing the skills of Indigenous omen and youth and their access to resources. Project activities include: (1) strengthening support for women and youth to access and pursue specialized and adapted training related to the sustainable tourism sector; (2) improving tourism-related organizations’ capacity to implement good practices in inclusive governance and administrative, financial and environmental management; and (3) building public and private institutions’ capacity to promote inclusive economic development in the area, while ensuring that the rights of women are respected. The initiative covers 15 municipalities and aims to benefit 1,250 Indigenous women and youth. The activities, as well as the investments with public and private actors, particularly in terms of tourism infrastructures, significantly expand the scope of the project and are expected to reach 468,045 people.
