Objet publié

This project aims to address the lack of accountability for atrocities committed by Daesh by supporting the investigation of breaches of International Criminal and Humanitarian Law (ICHL) in Iraq. Although Daesh’s crimes in Iraq are widely publicized by a range of human rights bodies and the media, the Commission for International Justice and Accountability (CIJA) focuses on conducting evidence-gathering operations in line with international standards in order to prepare criminal case files. These case files eventually form the basis of prosecutions targeting mid to high-level offenders. The CIJA concurrently provides capacity building support and mentorship to local counterparts and officials. These efforts ultimately increase access to justice and accountability for Iraqis affected by conflict; lead to an enhanced understanding of actors and entities committing violations of international law and human rights; and strengthen international responses to Daesh atrocities.
