March 2017 – Since the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement in October 2015, Myanmar has taken significant strides towards peace. However, conflict, prolonged displacement and continued inter-communal tensions, in addition to the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters, result in significant humanitarian needs that continue in 2017. In total, an estimated 525,000 people will be in need of humanitarian assistance this year. With GAC’s support, Doctors Without Borders Canada is increasing access to emergency health care to vulnerable populations. Project activities include: (1) providing primary health care services, including through out-patient consultations and services, to up to 75,000 people (2) providing emergency lifesaving referrals to up to 1,800 patients; and (3) providing maternal and reproductive health services to up to 5,500 women.
