The project fits within the context of Mali's 1998-2007 Ten-Year Health and Social Development Plan and directly supports its five-year operational program, the Health and Social Development Program (PRODESS). Canadian support mainly targets community health centres (CSCOMs) in providing reproductive health services, and community health associations (ASACOs) in mobilizing society and in managing CSCOMs. The project aims to help build the capacities of decentralized health facilities in the Kayes region. This results in better health conditions for women and children. The selected approach is to provide small-scale technical assistance, as well as direct financial support for the operational program in the Kayes region.
