The Africa Stockpiles Program (ASP) aims to undertake the costly and technically complex challenge of cleaning up obsolete pesticides across Africa and put in place measures to help prevent their recurrence. The Program is a multiparty partnership whose objectives are: a) to clean up stockpiled pesticides and pesticide-contaminated waste in Africa in an environmentally sound manner; b) to catalyze development of prevention measures; and c) to provide capacity building and institutional strengthening on important chemicals-related issues. The World Bank (WB) is the implementing agency as selected by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). CIDA's contribution is provided in form of a grant to the WB for the implementation of the ASP specifically in Nigeria.
