The purpose of the project is to reconstruct or repair up to 4,300 safe and permanent houses in selected areas of Aceh Province and Nias Island through an integrated, community-based approach. Specifically, the project is supporting access to secure land tenure and the construction or repair of safe and permanent houses for 2,200 households in six villages in Aceh Besar and for 2,100 households in 29 villages in Lahewa and Afulu, two sub-districts of Nias. This project represents CIDA’s contribution to a Canadian Red Cross Society housing and community facilities reconstruction initiative worth approximately $130 million.
