At 5:53 a.m. local time on May 27, 2006, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit the Indonesian island of Java. The epicentre of the earthquake was 37 kilometres south of the city of Yogyakarta, and affected eight districts in the province of Yogyakarta and in the neighbouring province of Central Java. This project provides assistance in a coordinated fashion to earthquake-affected peoples in Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces through the reconstruction of housing and the provision of livelihood activities. The focus on these activities is consistent with the Government of Indonesia's Recovery Plan.
