The Rural Medical Equipment and Contraceptives project aims to address development challenges relating to health, such as issues of infant, child, and maternal mortality. In providing standard packages of medical equipment, and supplies of contraceptives to be made available free-of-charge from national family planning services, this project helps ensure the availability of the resources necessary to support and improve basic social services in Ethiopia. In this multi-donor initiative, CIDA contributed funds used to purchase necessary medical equipment and contraceptives. The World Bank administers this project as part of a larger multi-donor initiative, while specialized agencies (UNICEF and the United Nations Population Fund) are responsible for the procurement and distribution of medical equipment and supplies. All CIDA disbursements have been made towards this project.
