Objet publié
The humanitarian and security situations in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remain a cause for concern. North Kivu, South Kivu and Orientale Province are plagued by serious human rights violations, food insecurity, high mortality and morbidity rates, horrific sexual violence and considerable and continuing displacement of population groups, which leads to medical, sanitary and nutritional problems. While a large number of displaced people have returned home with a return to stability in some areas, the forcibly displaced people are still estimated at over two million and live alongside vulnerable hosting communities. This project aims to provide emergency shelter and critical household items to help meet the urgent needs of vulnerable families displaced by the conflict in South Kivu and Orientale Province. Through this project, Development and Peace seeks to meet the emergency shelter needs of targeted vulnerable populations. Activities include: the distribution of 4,100 temporary shelters to extremely vulnerable families in the villages of Kalehe, Walungu, Kabare, Doruma, Duru and Niangara and the provision of essential household kits to vulnerable populations to help them re-establish their normal lives. These kits include blankets, clothing for all family members, basic cooking utensils and hygiene kits.
