Objet publié

5 January 2011 - Pakistan recently experienced the worst monsoon flooding in its history. At its height, over 20 million people were affected, and over 7 million people were made homeless by the flooding. While most of the flood-affected people have returned to their home areas, approximately 14 million people still require humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs, and to begin the process of resuming their normal lives. CIDA is supporting CARE Canada to meet the needs of 10,570 flood-affected people in the shelter, agriculture, and livelihoods sectors. The project focuses on meeting the immediate humanitarian needs of flood-affected households, as well as contributing to the early recovery of the agricultural sector. Cash-for-work initiatives are being used to clear debris and repair community-level infrastructure. Households targeted for assistance are among the most marginalized and poorest households who have lost their assets, and whose livelihoods opportunities (such as day labour, sharecropping, and small business) have been severely affected by the floods.
