Indonesia is one of the countries most at risk from climate change. Over the past ten years, rising sea levels, environmental damage, and the loss of biodiversity have shown how serious and complex the issue is. The project helps expand Indonesia’s efforts to adapt to and reduce the effects of climate change in key areas. It supports disaster risk reduction with a focus on climate change, restores peatlands and mangroves, and strengthens policies related to climate financing. Project activities include: (1) developing modelling tools that model and measure the damage and costs of flooding made worse by climate change, helping to guide policy decisions; (2) developing nature-based solutions for restoring peatlands and mangroves and protecting biodiversity, while recognizing and using the knowledge and skills of women; (3) conducting gender-responsive research and developing policies and programs for climate change mitigation and adaptation, including carbon pricing; and (4) exploring innovative social support mechanisms to address climate risks. The project will directly benefit 30,000 university staff, researchers, and government officials through training and support. It will also indirectly benefit many communities, especially women, young people, and low-income groups.
