Objet publié

14 October 2011 – Torrential monsoon rains in August and September triggered extensive flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, Pakistan. Based on an initial assessment of the situation, the United Nations estimates that approximately 5.8 million people have been affected by the floods, and about 1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes. The flood-affected population is in immediate need of food assistance, emergency shelter and household items, clean water and sanitation, basic health care, and, support for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition among children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. CIDA’s contribution is helping the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) meet the immediate needs of 105,000 severely flood-affected people in Sindh Province for food, essential non-food relief items, emergency shelter, basic health care and safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
