Objet publié
14 October 2011 - Torrential monsoon rains in August and September triggered extensive flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, Pakistan. Based on an initial assessment of the situation, the United Nations estimates that approximately 5.8 million people have been affected by the floods, and about 1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes. The flood-affected population is in immediate need of food assistance, emergency shelter and household items, clean water and sanitation, basic health care, and, support for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition among children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. CIDA’s contribution is helping UNICEF to identify and treat cases of severe acute malnutrition among young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. UNICEF is also providing micronutrient supplementation to these vulnerable populations in order to protect their nutritional status and overall health.
