With CIDA support, Doctors without Borders (MSF) is helping to provide access to emergency medical care in two areas that have been badly affected by past and ongoing conflicts - the Abyei region of Sudan and Jonglei State, South Sudan. Overall, MSF expects to assist more than 133,000 people over the span of this project, 93,000 in Jonglei and 40,000 in Agok. Project activities will focus on: providing maternal and child health and vaccination services (3,000 first antenatal visits and 69,000 outpatients); providing quality health care to target populations; responding to medical needs arising from conflict; treating infectious diseases in 1,104 conflict-affected beneficiaries; and providing treatment for 2,000 malnourished children. Emergency stocks of drugs and medical supplies will also be maintained.
