Objet publié

October 2014 - The humanitarian situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate. The violence between armed groups and government forces has displaced an estimated 1.8 million people from their homes. Basic services, including health care and water infrastructure, are disrupted, resulting in acute humanitarian needs. Women and children are among the most vulnerable and face an enhanced risk of sexual and gender-based violence. The crisis is exposing more than 840,000 children to violence and abuse, and deprives them of education and other important developmental opportunities. With DFATD’s support, the partner is providing access to education and protection services to up to 200,000 children in Iraq. Project activities include: (1) constructing pre-fabricated schools to allow children to continue their education; (2) training teachers in conflict-sensitive education; (3) establishing child-friendly spaces in camps to allow children to play in a safer environment; and (4) providing child protection services including child helplines and family reunification services.
